How a virtual reality app is teaching people new languages

An Android app out of Romania is creating genuine conversations with virtual people, helping people to learn a new language.

Just pop on your virtual reality gear (cardboard or plastic) and chat with someone in your choice of 30 languages.

MondlyVR hears what you’re saying, offers feedback and improves pronunciation.

It’s eerily close to having a real-life conversation and it doesn’t cost $40 an hour, like some language tutors will charge you.

ATi studios built the app and are the same geeks behind Mondly, also labelled this year’s Facebook ‘App of the year’. Pretty impressive.

Mondly CEO Alex Iliescu says, “We realized the best way to teach languages would be to create an immersive experience that replicates real life scenarios and conversations. VR gives us the best opportunity to do this.”
